Bidy ruffled his feathers, something was bothering him again. The puppy and his Sammy were curled up on the couch finally asleep. The male adult of the house had been gone for a few weeks, that helped, but something was wrong. He glided over to his human and tugged on her blanket until it was covering her. The puppy raised his head and then rested it on her arm. Bidy was glad to have a companion who was better able to protect her, even if he was dumber and couldn’t really talk.
“You’re a good bird. How is our Sammy?” That voice made Bidy puff up as big as he could.
“Sammy safe. Go away.” Bidy bobbed. He never liked this tall man who seemed to be able to appear from nowhere.
The puppy lifted his head and tilted it sideways at the new comer, then to Bidy. The pup was tense, but wasn’t growling, just watching.
“It is okay. Something just feels wrong, and I wanted to check on her. Do you feel it?” He squatted down to the bird.
“Bidy doesn’t like you.” Bidy started pacing the back of the couch lifting his legs up as high as he could with each step.
“I know, you do not like non-purely mortal souls, well most. You seem to tolerate the fey dog.”
“Fairy is loyal.”
“Glad you approve. She should be safe for a while yet. There really isn’t anything going on in this part of this realm yet. Keep taking care of her.” With that Dawn disappeared and the puppy went back to sleep.
Bidy looked down at his Sammy. “Sammy safe. Sammy happy. Bidy happy.”
