She stood there frozen, staring at the floor. The scattered pieces glittered from the light but she couldn’t see it. Her eyes were seeing something else, something distant. Her heart beat sped up and she fought to breath. She could hear it again, but she couldn’t, it wasn’t real, but it was.
Something caught her attention and she saw that her hands were empty and something glittered on the floor. “Are you okay?” a familiar, but not familiar voice echoed in her ear. Her eyes looked around as she forced her hands to her side, where was she?
She faced the voice and forced a smile, a small child was looking at her with scared eyes. “I’m okay Abby” She signed with her hands. “I just dropped my milk, silly me. Can you tell me what you want while I clean it up?” Well, not in so many words, but the little girl got the message clearly.
She fought to keep the smile real. She was only partially here, mostly there.
Breath, just breath, it’s over.
