The horn sounded out. Milli stood up, looking west she wiped her sweat sodden brow. The carbuncle she was working with rubbed against her leg making her force a smile at the baby creature. She picked it up and threw it up in the air before nuzzling her face to its. "One day, little one, one day that horn is going to sound for you." It chirped happily at her voice pawing playfully at her face. "One day you are going to be called to fight with your kin and your going to show them all how smart and powerful you are. Aren't you."
She pulled a prop from her pocket. "Focus." The carbuncle stopped playing and looked at the prop. "Ready." She threw the prop as far as she could and waited a while before saying "Now." The prop fizzled. "Good baby." She scratched it behind its ears. "Your doing so well."
"Milli." Rozo called out as he approached the pair.
A larger scarred carbuncle bounding behind him, the one in Milli's hands squirmed until she put it down and it took off to the older one. She sighed as she watched them play, she didn't like training creatures to fight in battles. It wasn't their war.
"Duty to Milli." Rozo said, waving his hand infront of her face, which she caught and had his hand behind his back. "I'm sorry, you were zoning again. Let go. Let go, faith fail you."
She let go and put her hands on her hips. "What Rozo? This one is only 6 months old, you can't have it until a year."
"I'm not hear about it. Though how far is the range." Rozo squatted down and whistled both of the carbuncles hopped over to him. He pet them both.
"I'm not telling you. What do you want." She made a whistle sound and they both walked to her.
"Do they all obey you even after they leave? Never mind. you heard the horn. Faith falls."
"Duty calls. From now till need be done." She picked the small one and hugged it. "What does that have to do with me. I'm already working with 6 babies, none of them are old enough. You know what happens if you send them out before they are old enough."
"That horn isn't for them, it's for you." Rozo stood up and placed his hand on her shoulder. "Zoi is dead."
Milli looked at the baby in her arms. "But who will teach the little ones?"
"There is a girl, Dimitra, who has your gift."
"She is only five, do we send all our babies to train now?"
