Something was off

Something was off, she looked around trying to place what. She felt her hair rise and hair tremble as she started to find herself breathing heavier. She could almost swear she heard creepy music.

She was staying at a friend's house for the weekend, a last minute invite had her pack the backpack that was thrown next to her friend's backpack collection. The blanket she was planning on using on the futon in her friend's room was still nicely folded up on the edge waiting for her. She never could sleep until everybody else was. For the last hour she had been laying on top of the roof watching the stars waiting for everyone to settle and herself to get sleepy.

The second she came in through her friend's window she knew something was wrong. Her friend wasn't in his bed, and the door was cracked. The house was dark, except for a light flicker that looked to be from down the hall, a room she hadn't explored yet. Her eyes caught a shadow leave the doorway, but when she realized it made no sound she quickly and quietly made her way back to the roof and down the house where she thought she saw a flicker, and then realized there was smoke.

Her friend had three dogs, big dogs, who were very mean and loud to people they weren't introduced to. Why weren't the dogs barking? She would have heard them barking. Hell, she heard the TV until they turned it off a while ago. She pulled out her cell phone and dialed 911, and walked around the edge of the house quietly trying to figure out how the intruder got into the house without her hearing. There wasn't an extra car in the lot, what did he do, walk? 3 Sides of the house were surrounded by trees, the other was a nice size yard and very long drive way. It was at least a 15 minute walk to the road, farther if you wanted to go to a neighbor's house.

When the operator came on she realized she didn't know where her friend lived. She just knew that he picked her up from an airport that was a good two hours away and that was without traffic. Thank god for technology as she whispered information to lady on the phone. She realized that she could see smoke coming from part of the rooftop. Oh god the fire was spreading... She told the operator that she was going to chance the bad guy and fire and see if she could save someone.

Pocketing the phone she slid back into her friends room and ducked into the bathroom wetting a towel to wrap around her nose and mouth. After a second thought, she turned on the shower and jumped in, leaving it on she quickly made it to the room that had the fire and looked in. Three chairs were burning with bodies in them. Dogs laying at the feet of each chair. Her hands flew to her mouth as she turned around planning on running out.

But she ran into someone instead. "I thought something was off... Well aren't you a pretty one."
